MP Ahammed : From a Small Kerala Town to the Helm of a Global Jewelry Empire

The story of MP Ahammed, founder and chairman of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, is one of grit, foresight, and fearless entrepreneurship. Hailing from the modest town of Malappuram in Kerala, Ahammed’s journey into the business world began not with luxury or privilege, but with determination and a sharp eye for opportunity.

At just 17 years old, Ahammed ventured into the world of trade—not in gold, but in agricultural commodities. With no formal college education and no family fortune to fall back on, he relied on his instincts and work ethic. His early experiences in spice trading and construction helped him develop a keen understanding of market behavior, customer relationships, and risk management—skills that would become the foundation of his future success.

The turning point came in 1993, when Ahammed recognized a glaring gap in the Indian jewellery industry: the lack of transparency, standardized pricing, and customer-oriented service. Breaking away from the traditional model of family-run, informal jewellery stores, he launched the first Malabar Gold & Diamonds showroom in Kozhikode, Kerala.
