Disparity in Representation: Muslim Doctors Just 6.6% in Bengal’s Government Medical Colleges

 Recent data obtained through RTI (Right to Information) enquiries has revealed a significant underrepresentation of Muslim doctors in nine government medical colleges across West Bengal. Despite Muslims comprising 27.01% of the state's population, only 6.6% of doctors in these institutions belong to the Muslim community.

Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, situated in a region with a large Muslim demographic, reported the highest proportion of Muslim doctors at 19.56%. In contrast, Deben Mahato Government Medical College and Hospital in Purulia recorded the lowest representation, with just 1.82% of its doctors from the Muslim community.
